Down Syndrome
Down Syndrome (sometimes stilled referred to as Down's Syndrome outside the U. S.) is the most common genetic cause of developmental disabilities.  Sometimes it is also referred to as Trisomy 21 since it is caused by an extra chromosome #21.

Here are a few of the best sites for information on this condition.

National Down Syndrome Society
The National Down Syndrome Society is one of a number of national organizations devoted to this most common genetic cause of mental retardation. NDSS "was established in 1979 to ensure that all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to achieve their full potential in community life." It is devoted to research, public awareness, and advocacy about Down syndrome.
